Largely favorable weather across the Corn Belt

On the Plains, very warm, mostly dry weather favors summer crop maturation and fieldwork, including spring wheat harvesting. Wednesday’s warmest weather, relative to normal, will occur across the northern and central High Plains, where highs should generally range from 90 to 100º.

Across the Corn Belt, unsettled, showery weather continues in several areas, including the Ohio Valley and the upper Midwest. Growing conditions in most of the Midwest remain favorable for immature summer crops, and have recently improved in drought-affected areas of the eastern Corn Belt.

In the South, a plume of tropical moisture continues to spread northeastward from the western Gulf Coast region. A few of the showers are affecting southern Louisiana, where extensive lowland flooding persists. In contrast, hot and humid but mostly dry weather prevails in the Southeast.

In the West, a late-summer heat wave continues, except in the southern Rockies and along the immediate Pacific Coast. Heat favors crop maturation and fieldwork, including Northwestern small grain harvesting.
