Heat builds westward; a cool-off ahead for the Corn Belt

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of hotter-than-normal weather in much of the southern and western U.S., while near- or below-normal temperatures will prevail from the Midwest into the middle and northern Atlantic States.

Meanwhile, drier-than-normal conditions in southern Texas and from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Plains and upper Midwest should contrast with near- or above-normal rainfall across the remainder of the country.
