Excessive rains in the upper Mississippi Valley

Across the Corn Belt, significant lowland flooding continues in parts of northeastern Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, and southwestern Wisconsin, where recent rainfall has totaled 6 to 10 inches or more in numerous communities. Currently, locally heavy showers persist in portions of Iowa and environs. Elsewhere, cooler weather in the Great Lakes region contrasts with late-season warmth in the southern Corn Belt.

On the Plains, lingering warmth prevails from Nebraska southward, maintaining favorable conditions for summer crop maturation and harvesting, as well as winter wheat planting and emergence. Meanwhile, cool, showery weather on the northern Plains is boosting topsoil moisture.

In the South, a few showers linger along the southern Atlantic Coast. Elsewhere, warm, dry weather remains nearly ideal for summer crop maturation and harvesting, although diminishing soil moisture is a concern.

In the West, heavy precipitation—including some high-elevation snow—is falling across the northern Intermountain region. Cool but mostly dry weather covers the remainder of the West, although breezy conditions stretch from southern California to the central and southern Rockies.
