Cooler days ahead for the Plains; Summer heat lingers across the Midwest Corn Belt

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or below-normal temperatures across the northern Plains and much of the West, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail in parts of California and east of a line from Texas to Lake Superior.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal weather in California, the western Great Basin, and parts of the mid-South and lower Midwest.
