Cold wave weather pattern to evolve across much of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures from the Pacific Coast to the Plains, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail in most areas east of the Mississippi River. 

Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation in the Far West, including California, should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions across the remainder of the country.
