Unseasonably cool to cold air will continue to expand across areas east of the Rockies, especially in the wake of a late-week storm system expected to traverse the southern Plains, mid-South, Ohio Valley, and Northeast. As a result, weekend freezes should be expected across portions of the northern Plains, as well as the Great Lakes and Northeastern States, with frost and freezes possibly extending southward through the Ohio Valley and into the Appalachians. In freeze-affected areas, fruits, ornamentals, and emerged summer crops could incur varying degrees of damage. Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for below-normal temperatures to continue in most areas east of the Rockies.
