Although the Southwestern monsoon circulation will remain active, many other areas of the country will receive little or no rain during the next several days.  Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 2 inches or more in Wyoming and the Four Corners States, but mostly dry weather will prevail across the southern Plains, the Pacific Coast States, and the nation’s northern tier.  The Midwest will receive spotty showers, though rain could become briefly heavy early next week in the southwestern Corn Belt.  Southern Texas may receive much-needed rainfall.  Showers across the remainder of the Deep South will subside during the weekend, while rain may develop early next week in the middle Atlantic States.  Despite the lack of widespread precipitation, relatively cool weather will cover many key Midwestern agricultural production areas into next week.  In contrast, heat will persist across the southern half of the Plains.  Parts of the West will also experience late-summer heat.
