Additional Southeastern rainfall could total 1 to 2 inches before ending on Sunday, with higher amounts possible in the coastal Carolinas. Meanwhile, Midwestern showers should end during Friday. Farther west, the first in a series of storm systems will emerge from the Rockies during the weekend. The initial system should produce a stripe of late-week precipitation from the Great Basin and Intermountain West to the north-central U.S. A second storm will push a little farther to the south and east, delivering some rain from the central and southern Plains into the Midwest. By early next week, a third, stronger system will cross the Rockies and begin to affect the Plains, bringing the possibility of high winds and heavy precipitation, including mountain snow. The storm train will reinforce the cool weather pattern already in place across the West and help to maintain mostly above-normal temperatures across the eastern half of the country.
