Southeastern rain will shift eastward, mostly exiting the southern Atlantic Coast by Sunday. However, additional rainfall could total 2 to 4 inches or more from western Florida into the southern Appalachians, leading to flash flooding. Lighter rain (locally exceeding an inch) will spread across the Midwest during the next couple of days, causing brief harvest disruptions. Meanwhile, a Western pattern change will result in cooler conditions and increasingly showery weather. Five-day totals could reach 1 to 2 inches across the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest, but most other areas in the western U.S. will receive little or no precipitation. Elsewhere, cool, showery weather will arrive toward week’s end across the northern Plains, while summer-like heat will linger into early next week on the southern Plains.
