Although much of the country will receive little or no precipitation during the next 5 days, important rain should develop by mid-week across the central and southern Plains, with showers becoming more numerous toward week’s end. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches from Nebraska to Texas, with similar amounts extending into the southern Rockies and the western Gulf Coast region. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest should also receive significant precipitation, especially during the early- to mid-week period. In contrast, dry weather should prevail throughout the week in large sections of California, the Great Basin, and the northern High Plains, as well as much of the eastern one-third of the U.S. Elsewhere, cool weather will overspread the West during the next several days, while near- or above-normal temperatures will cover much of the central and eastern U.S
