Two additional systems will affect the country in the coming days. The first system will cross southern Canada during the mid- to late-week period, generating some light precipitation across the northern U.S. and helping to draw colder air southward. The second system will drift eastward from the Pacific Ocean, finally reaching the southern Rockies toward week’s end. Five-day precipitation totals could reach 1 to 3 inches from southern California to the interior Southeast, as moisture spreads eastward in advance of the Southern storm. However, little or no precipitation will fall in Florida and from northern California to the northern Plains. Toward week’s end, sharply colder air will be poised to overspread northern sections of the Rockies and Plains.
