A disturbance will reach the mid-Atlantic Coast on Friday. Subsequently, a storm system moving ashore in the Northwest will drift southeastward, arriving across the central Plains during the weekend. That system will also traverse the middle Atlantic States, reaching the coast by Monday. North of the path of the two storms, mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days from the upper Great Lakes region into northern New England. Mostly dry weather will also stretch from California to the Rio Grande Valley. In contrast, beneficial rain (up to an inch) will fall across the northern Plains. Five-day totals could reach 1 to 3 inches from the middle Mississippi Valley to the central Appalachians. Elsewhere, frost and freezes will continue for the next several days across the nation’s northern tier, mainly from the northern Plains to the interior Northeast. Weekend frost may also affect portions of the interior Northwest.
