A system currently crossing the Great Plains will drift southeastward, reaching the Gulf Coast late in the week. Snow will blanket the central Rockies and adjacent High Plains, including eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska, while storm-total rainfall could reach 1 to 3 inches or more in the Gulf Coast region. Precipitation (rain and wet snow) will dampen the central and southern Plains into Friday. In contrast, little or no precipitation will fall the next 5 days across much of the Midwest and Far West. Meanwhile, persistently cool weather will prevail across the central U.S. During the weekend and into next week, frost and freezes may occur as far south as Texas’ northern panhandle. Multiple freezes will affect the northern and central Plains and upper Midwest. Elsewhere, a marked warming trend in the Far West will push weekend temperatures to 80°F or higher as far north as Washington State.
