The next in a series of cold fronts will interact with the Southwestern monsoon circulation, helping to generate scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Four Corners States into the upper Midwest. Meanwhile, a tropical wave crossing the northern Gulf of Mexico should move inland late in the week across Texas or Louisiana, delivering heavy rain. In contrast, mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days across the Pacific Coast States and portions of the southern Plains. Extreme heat will not be a concern in most areas of the country, including the Midwest, through the weekend. The 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the return of hotter-than-normal weather nationwide, except for near- or below-normal temperatures in southern sections of the Rockies and Plains. Meanwhile, near- or below-normal rainfall across the majority of the country, including the northern Plains, middle and southern Atlantic States, and much of the West, should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in a broad area stretching from the south-central U.S. into the lower Great Lakes region and northern New England.
