Weather

An active pattern resumes across the Heartland including beneficial rains on the central Plains

During the next few days, heavy rain will be focused across the nation’s mid-section, first on the northern Plains, then over the south-central U.S.  The bulk of the northern Plains’ rain, totaling 1 to 3 inches, will fall by Friday.

Rain in the south-central U.S. should become heavy on Friday and will persist through the weekend.  Excessive rainfall (locally 4 to 8 inches or more) could lead to flooding in parts of central and southern Texas.  Some late-week and weekend rainfall (generally 1 to 2 inches) will spread as far east as the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys.  In contrast, mostly dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days in New York and New England, as well as parts of the Southeast and most areas west of the Rockies.

In some areas, including the Southeast and Far West, heat will accompany the dry weather.
