A largely drier pattern ahead for much of the Heartland later next week

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or below-normal temperatures in most areas along and east of a line from the southern Rockies to Lake Superior, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail across the northern Plains and much of the West—and along the southern Atlantic Coast.

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal rainfall across most of the country should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions from eastern New Mexico to the southern Atlantic States.
