A significant rain event ahead, focused on the central Plains, central & southern Corn Belt

Scattered showers across the Plains will shift eastward and will become more focused across the Midwest by the middle of the week.  Midwestern rain should linger into the weekend, especially in the southern Corn Belt.

As a result, 5-day rainfall totals should reach 1 to 3 inches or more from the central Plains into the lower Ohio Valley.  Similar totals should occur in the Northeast.  In contrast, only scattered showers will affect the Deep South and the northern Corn Belt, while mostly dry weather will prevail in the West.

However, the gradual development of the Southwestern monsoon circulation could provide a few thundershowers in Arizona and New Mexico.
