A return to chillier days ahead for parts of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or below-normal temperatures from the Pacific Coast to the Mississippi Valley, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail in the East.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation across much of the country, including the central and eastern U.S. and the Pacific Northwest, should contrast with drier-than-normal conditions from central and southern California and the Desert Southwest to the northern High Plains.
