A return to a cool, wet pattern for much of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures from the Pacific Northwest to the northern and central Plains and upper Midwest, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail in much of the eastern U.S., as well as California and the Great Basin.

Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation across the southern two-thirds of the West should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in Washington State and environs and most areas from the southern half of the Plains to the Atlantic Coast.
