Oil introduction will raise demand for high oleic soybeans

A new food ingredient promises added demand for high oleic soybean oil.  Performance Food Group Company, a major restaurant supplier, recently introduced its Brilliance High Performance Soybean Clear Fry Oil.  What’s of interest to soybean growers is that its primary ingredient is Pioneer brand Plenish high oleic soybean oil.  United Soybean Board Director William Layton from Maryland, who’s been growing high oleic soybeans for five years, says more Plenish oil in restaurant fryers means greater demand for the oil.  Layton also says that the introduction of the restaurant product is just what’s needed for more farmers to consider planting high oleic soybeans.

DuPont Pioneer Food and Industry Markets Group Director Russ Sanders says Performance Food Group’s distribution of high oleic soybean oil could mean additional high oleic soybean demand into the hundreds of thousands of acres.

Mike Seidel with Performance Food Group says his company is impressed with Pioneer Plenish high oleic soybean oil.  “It was a win for chefs,” Seidel told Brownfield Ag News at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, “it was a win for consumers by having a healthier oil that their food would be fried in.”
