USDA researches agritourism trends

A new USDA report on agritourism highlights gives greater insight into what farmers have added an agritourism component to their operations and how it’s helped them become more successful.

“Previous research has documented the loss of small and mid-sized farms and ranches so agritourism may offer a viable strategy to keep these farms afloat.”

Economic Research Service economist Christine Whitt tells Brownfield the most successful farms with an agritourism component are closer to urban areas. She’s hopeful future research can also show the benefits to rural economies.
