Protect the Harvest highlights agricultural industry

Brian Klipenstein, executive director of Protect the Harvest, believes the best way to strengthen the agriculture industry is by making connections to consumers one person at a time. This is why Protect the Harvest sponsored the 2014 Missouri State Fair, spreading agriculture awareness to fair goers. The Missouri State Fair even named “Protect the Harvest Day” as the end of the 10-day event.

The Protect the Harvest team travels across the United States spreading the word about agriculture and its importance.

“They go to everything from concerts, to county fairs, to tractor pulls all across the country,” Klipenstein said.

The organization began in 2010, around the same time that Missouri’s Proposition B Puppy Mill Bill was in legislation. This year, the Missouri’s Right to Farm legislation passed during the fair. This opportunity made it easy for Protect the Harvest to talk to Missourians about how agriculture affects the state.

“It’s been very gratifying to work in Missouri and see folks come together the way they did,” Klipenstein said.

The Protect the Harvest organization was created to “fight back and defend American families, farmers, sportsmen and animal owners from the growing threat posed by the animal rights movement.”
