Station Spotlight: KNOD FM 105.3

Brownfield Ag News is proud to partner with KNOD 105.3, Harlan, Iowa. This station has been part of Brownfield’s radio network since it went on the air. We sort of “grew up together!”

How long has your station been on the air? 

We’ve been on the air since November, 1979.

How long have you been a Brownfield affiliate?

Since our beginning, November 1979!

What Brownfield programs do you air?

Morning & Mid-day Livestock reports,  Iowa Ag News, Farmbreaks, Opening Livestock, and Last Session Commodity update.

Tell us about the services your station provides.

KNOD is a small market station providing Western Iowa with Local News, Weather, and High School Sports.  We air a Datebook program for non-profit events, “Klassifieds” program for people to buy/sell/trade/giveaway items, Obituary announcements, plus a local Birthday/Anniversary program. Numerous interviews with school & city officials, hospital representatives, and the local library are on each week. And, of course, advertising for area businesses.

Tell us about your community involvement.

KNOD  is a big supporter and promoter  of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the local Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, Iowa Community Kitchen, Boy & Girl Scouts, Red Cross Bloodmobiles, and our area towns summer and fall festivals.

Tell us about any involvement you have, or coverage you provide, to any agriculture related groups.

KNOD covers 7 area County Fairs, airing interviews with 4-H & FFA kids. We also work with 4-H & FFA kids recording PSAs to promote 4-H week & FFA week.  We promote Ag Week, Beef Month, Farm Safety Week, Pork Month,  air monthly Extension Reports, and promote Shelby County Cattlemen activities.

KNOD Sports Director,  Ron Novotny, has been calling Iowa High School Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and more   for over 50 years, and on KNOD since 1985.
