Youth adjust National FFA Week activities around pandemic

Festivities kick off today for blue corduroy jacket owners across the country as National FFA Week begins.

National FFA Eastern Region Vice President Miriam Hoffmann of Illinois tells Brownfield pandemic related restrictions have not put a damper on National FFA Week activities.

“We are planning on visiting over 100 different chapters and state associations delivering anything from a formal workshop or keynote, to even one night a chapter in Colorado is going to hang out with community members and make quesadillas.”

Illinois FFA State Treasurer Emma Kuhns says their team is doing all they can to make sure FFA members have the same opportunities as always.

“We have had a great push to make sure every student is able to access, through the internet, all of the opportunities within FFA and we have experienced some great innovation. It is incredibly important to keep students engaged and make sure they are receiving those leadership opportunities.”

And Hoffmann echoes the value of that nationwide.

“We want to connect on as many levels as we can, but the important thing is that we are just connecting person to person, even if that is through a screen.”

National FFA Week runs through Saturday.

Brownfield’s Rhiannon Branch interviews Illinois State FFA Officers Lexi Mueller, Molly Schempp, Margaret Vaessen, Jordi Oliver & Emma Kuhns and National Eastern Region VP Miriam Hoffman.
