Wyffels Hybrids raises $67,000 to house wounded veterans
Illinois-based Wyffels Hybrids rounded out a successful first year of their Serving Those Who Served program.
Jill Loehr tells Brownfield they launched the program at the 2019 Farm Progress show as a way to give back. For each bag of W5086RIB seed that was purchased, $2 were donated to Homes For Our Troops, a non-profit that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans.
“We are proud to report that we’re donating around $67,000 to Homes For Our Troops in our first year.”
Focusing on the central corn belt, the funds supported home builds for Marine Lance Corporal “Bobby” McCardle in Franklin, Wisconsin; Marine Staff Sergeant Dominic Fernandez in Lakeville, Minnesota and Army Sergeant Nathan Shumaker in Missouri, which was the 300th build for the organization.
“Next year we are going to change things up and we’re going to have two hybrids that contribute to the Serving Those Who Served initiative. Those are W4246RIB and W6906RIB. We are so excited about how our first year went and we can’t wait to see year two.”
She says employees and customers have chipped in even more by selling Serving Those Who Served merchandise and finding other sponsorships.
“The response has been positively overwhelming. There is so much stress right now across the nation and this is just a positive thing.”
She says customers receive camouflage seed bags and field signs as a reminder of their contribution.
