World Food Prize Foundation announces 2023 Laureate

The leader of a US-based humanitarian organization has been named the next World Food Prize Laureate for her work turning minefields into farmland.

World Food Prize Foundation President Terry Branstad says Heidi Kuhn founded Roots of Peace in 1997.

“She has shown more than a million people living in war-torn regions a way forward to restoring peace and prosperity through agriculture.”

Branstad says she has helped rebuild food systems in nine countries.

“First she partners with de-mining organizations to clear land mines,” he said. “Then she works with farmers to replant fields with modern agriculture practices.”

Kuhn officially receives the 2023 World Food Prize in October.
