Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois counties eligible for FSA loans

Nearly half of Wisconsin and some adjacent Minnesota and Illinois counties can apply for a special loan from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.  Acting Administrator Chris Beyerhelm says farmers in 11 Wisconsin counties suffered major losses from severe weather including tornadoes between May 16th and May 18th.  Farmers in 23 more Wisconsin counties, four in Minnesota, and two in Illinois might also qualify for the low-interest physical loss loans.

The program helps operators repair or replace physical property essential to an agriculture operation, including buildings and livestock.

The primary damage area includes Barron, Buffalo, Eau Claire, Jackson, Jefferson, Juneau, Polk, Rock, Rusk, Sauk and Trempealeau counties in Wisconsin.  Additionally, 23 Wisconsin counties are contiguous to this designated disaster area, making these producers also potentially eligible for FSA programs.  The contiguous counties are Adams, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Dunn, Green, Iowa, La Crosse, Monroe, Pepin, Price, Richland, St. Croix, Sawyer, Taylor, Vernon, Walworth, Washburn, Waukesha and Wood.

Farmers in Boone and Winnebago counties in Illinois, and Chisago, Wabasha, Washington, and Winona counties of Minnesota might also be eligible for FSA loan programs.

Physical loss loans may be made to eligible farmers and ranchers to repair or replace damaged or destroyed physical property essential to the success of the agriculture operation, including livestock losses. Examples of property commonly affected include essential farm buildings, fixtures to real estate, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.
