Wisconsin lawmakers want 40M in ARPA funds for drinking water upgrades

Several Republican Wisconsin legislators want Governor Tony Evers to direct millions of dollars from the American Rescue Plan to pay for clean water programs.

Assembly bill 243 would allocate 40-million dollars to the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program through the Department of Natural Resources to replace lead lines, 12-million for the Urban Nonpoint Source program, six and a half million for the Rural Nonpoint Program, two million for the Well Compensation Grant Program, and 500-thousand dollars towards well testing and public education.

Wisconsin is expected to receive another 3.2 billion dollars from the 1.9 trillion-dollar American Rescue Plan.  Governor Evers has already vetoed a bill that would have given the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee some authority in how that money is spent.
