Wisconsin farmers apply for state direct payments in large numbers

Wisconsin farmers are signing up for direct payments under the state’s Farm Support Program in large numbers.  The Wisconsin Department of Revenue says in the first 24 hours, 3,673 farmers applied for the relief online, or about 153 applications an hour.

The direct payment program will provide a total of $50 million in direct support to Wisconsin farmers who have experienced losses due to COVID-19 in addition to any aid from the federal CFAP program.

Wisconsin farmers with gross income between $35,000 and five million dollars are encouraged to apply as soon as possible online so there is time, if needed, to resolve any potential issues in the application before the June 29th cutoff date.  The Department of Revenue also offers assistance by calling (608) 266-2772 or emailing them at DORFarmSupport@wisconsin.gov .

Individual payments will range from $1,000-$3,500 and will be issued in mid-July, after the application period closes. The Department of Revenue also offers telephone assistance including translation services at
