Wisconsin crops doing well with rain

The USDA says another week of frequent rains and below-average temperatures created challenges for Wisconsin farmers.  The National Ag Statistics Service says a little more than 3-and-a-half days were suitable for fieldwork last week.  Wet fields, yellowing of crops, and even some plants in standing water were reported by farmers, and the wet weather also made it tough to cut hay or spray crops.

Seventy-one percent of Wisconsin’s corn is reported as good to excellent, which is up from last week.  Soybeans and Potatoes are 75% good to excellent, with 10% of soybeans now in bloom.  Second crop alfalfa is 31% complete, and all hay is reported as 77% good to excellent.  Topsoil moisture remains adequate to surplus statewide.
