Wisconsin crops got rain, but most could use more

Many Wisconsin farmers were thankful to see a little rain last week to help their crops but many would like another good soaking rain.

Fifty-three percent of Wisconsin’s corn has reached silking stage which is about five days ahead of average.  Sixty-six percent of soybeans have bloomed, and that’s also five days ahead of average.  Twenty-six percent of beans have set pods.

The oats are 96% headed, 84% of potatoes are in good to excellent shape, and winter wheat coloring is 96% with 28% of the crop harvested.

Many farmers are cutting third crop hay this week.  USDA reporters also say they are seeing Armyworm damage in Eau Claire and Columbia counties and an increase in Western Bean Cutworm activity in Columbia County.
