Wisconsin ag department adjusting well to working remotely

Wisconsin’s ag secretary says most of his department staff is still working remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Randy Romanski says, “We still have, I would bet, thirty to forty people in the building and everybody else is working remotely. We are doing a few more field visits now. We make sure our inspectors have appropriate PPE.”

Romanski told the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Board inspections, and other fieldwork is getting done.

Romanski says the department recently surveyed employees about telecommuting challenges and found staff and supervisors have adjusted well. “Productivity is at or above prior levels. It’s been really, pretty impressive.”

Romanski told the board there are less than 40 staff members working inside their Madison headquarters.
