Winter wheat ratings decline following last week’s cold wave
The impact of last week’s cold wave on the Great Plains winter wheat crop is reflected in the latest USDA condition ratings.
USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says the good to excellent ratings for winter wheat, nationally, saw quite a drop.
“Fifty-seven percent is the number. Last week we were at 62 percent good to excellent,” Rippey says. “We’re also seeing an increase in the very poor to poor rating, up to 13 percent from just ten percent a week ago.”
Rippey says Texas and Oklahoma saw the biggest declines in their wheat condition ratings.
