Winter wheat planting near average pace

South Dakota’s winter wheat planting continues while the spring wheat harvest has wrapped up.

The USDA says winter wheat was 10 percent planted as of Sunday, near last year’s pace of 12 percent.

The USDA says 43 percent of the state’s corn crop is rated in good to excellent shape, down from 48 percent the previous week. Seventy-eight percent of the crop has dented.

Soybeans are rated 50 percent good to excellent, down just one percentage point week-to-week. Thirty percent of the crop was dropping leaves.
