Winter wheat harvest progresses near finish line

Harvest continues to wind down in South Dakota.

The latest crop progress report says winter wheat is 97 percent harvested, two percent ahead of the five-year average. Spring wheat is 84 percent harvested, above the 80 percent average. The USDA also says 88 percent of the oat crop is out.

Seventy-one percent of the corn crop is in the dough stage, with 96 percent silking. Corn condition was rated 48 percent good to excellent.

For soybeans, 86 percent are setting pods and 55 percent are called good to excellent.

Pastures have had some stress, with just 21 percent in the good to excellent category.
