Winter wheat harvest begins in Illinois

Winter wheat harvest began in Illinois last week.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 13% is harvested, slightly behind last year’s pace, with a 65% good to excellent rating.

95% of soybeans have emerged and the agency rates the crop 33% good to excellent, down 14 percentage points on the week. The corn condition rating also fell to 36% good to excellent as a majority of the state battles dry conditions.  

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 95% complete and the second cutting has begun. Illinois pastures are considered only 17% good to excellent.
