Win the Bin raffle raising money for Farm Rescue

The organization known as Farm Rescue is selling chances to win a grain bin to raise money to help farmers who need assistance.  Founder Bill Gross of North Dakota tells Brownfield the Farm Rescue network of volunteers lends a hand to farm families.

“It basically helps a farm or ranch family when they’ve had an unexpected crisis to get the work done in a timely manner so they can maintain their livelihood,” said Gross, in an interview with Brownfield Ag News.

Farm Rescue is giving away a 5000-bushel Meridian hopper grain bin in July to raise money for its mission of helping farmers in need.

“People can go to WinTheBin.com and buy a raffle ticket for $20,” said Gross.  “The proceeds go to further our mission for the Farm Rescue Foundation and Farm Rescue.”

There is a difference between Farm Rescue and the Farm Rescue Foundation, according to Gross.  Farm Rescue organizes volunteers and equipment to plant, harvest or tend to livestock for farmers who face a crisis.

“They need the work done,” said Gross.  “They need their crop planted if they’re injured or ill, or they need it harvested, and that’s what’s going to help maintain their livelihood.”

Meanwhile, the Farm Rescue Foundation, said Gross, provides help to those who might have suffered a life changing injury that would otherwise prevent them from pursuing a farming career.

“It might be a lift into their tractor or into their pickup truck, or electric grain bin hopper openers, or electric tarp openers for their trucks,” said Gross.

Since its first case in 2006, Farm Rescue has helped more than 550 farm families in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and eastern Montana.
