Will a farm bill get passed in 2023?

The head of government relations with Farmers Business Network says he’s optimistic the 2023 Farm Bill will get passed next year.

Ken Barbic tells Brownfield, “The current authorization expires in September, 2023,” he said. “I think that leaders on both sides have expressed a lot of optimism and interest in trying to get a farm bill done.”

Congress has said they want to complete the bill on time, but Barbic says a short-term extension isn’t out of the question. “The 2018 Farm Bill was done largely on time, and even that bill didn’t get done until December of 2018,” Barbic said. “So, almost three months to four months after expiration.”

Barbic says ag committee leaders in Congress have expressed bipartisan support to get a deal done in 2023.
