White House unveils spending framework

The White House has released a spending framework for the reconciliation bill that is much less than Biden’s original 3.5 Trillion dollar package. The outline for a 1.75 Trillion dollar bill would be paid for by tax increases that would affect corporations but would not have much direct impact on agriculture.

The summary says there are increased investments in climate-smart agriculture” that could reach roughly 130 million cropland acres per year, representing as many as 240,000 farms.”

Senate Ag Committee chair Debbie Stabenow of Michigan says the Build Back Better framework “grows jobs in rural communities and invests in solutions to the climate crisis to help strengthen” the nation’s future.

Progressive Democrats might not be on board. The bill could potentially pave the way for a vote on the infrastructure bill which is widely supported by ag interests.

House Speaker Pelosi reportedly is pushing on a vote on the infrastructure bill today.
