Wheat harvest underway in Kentucky
Some crops in Kentucky are starting to show signs of drought stress despite the recent scattered rains.
Corn is 94% emerged, and conditions dropped to 67% good to excellent. Soybeans are 85% planted, with 73% emerged, and 72% rated good to excellent.
Winter wheat is 4% harvested and 47% mature with 79% of the crop rated good to excellent.
The tobacco crop is 79% set and 76% is rated good to excellent. Pasture conditions have declined significantly with 49% rated good to excellent. While weather has allowed hay cutting, regrowth is very slow as fields are in desperate need of precipitation. Yields are widely varied. Production is low in some areas and cattle producers are concerned about stocks.
Topsoil is 34% adequate to surplus and subsoil is 41% adequate to surplus.
