Western Farm Show opens February 23 in Kansas City

The amount of innovation coming to market is pushing farmers to keep up on technology.  The Annual Western Farm Show is February 23rd through the 25th in Kansas City, and manager Ken Dean tells Brownfield the need to learn more will get farmers in the door.

“People are becoming more technology savvy so they can take existing land and get more out of it,” Dean told Brownfield Ag News.  “I think you’re going to have an opportunity to see a wide variety of not only equipment, but products and services that tie nicely in with that.”

Farmers like to see innovative products up close, said Dean, and they like to talk to those who make and sell the products.

“There’s nothing like seeing the products and services in person and then also having the opportunity to visit with the people that stand behind those products,” said Dean.  “Our job, our role, I guess, basically, is to bring those two entities together.”

This is the eighth year that Texas A&M livestock specialist Ron Gill will be at the Western Farm Show doing low-stress cattle handling demonstrations.

“It’s a great way to see someone handle cattle in a low-stress environment,” said Dean.  “It’s healthy for the cattle, and it’s also a low-stress environment for the handler.”

One change is that the Western Farm Show, held at the American Royal Complex, no longer has access to neighboring Kemper Arena, according to Dean, so there’s no tractor pull this year.
