Werth says silage harvest finished early

Recent dry weather helped to wrap up silage harvest for one northern Michigan farmer.

Corby Werth tells Brownfield it’s been a beautiful fall for fieldwork.

“I would say we are ahead of schedule, the weather has been very favorable,” he says.

Werth says planting more corn silage acres this year has been beneficial with varied moisture throughout the season.

“Our yields are decent, they’re not above average,” he shares.  “Feed inventories look good, but we took on a bit more land this year, so we had insurance.”

Werth farms 1,500 acres and milks 420 cows with his family in Alpena.
