Weekend rains help crops in southern Minnesota

Weekend storms provided relief for dry fields across southern Minnesota.

USDA’s latest weekly update shows crop development remains behind normal with 26 percent of corn at the dough stage and 60 percent of soybeans setting pods.

Corn considered good to excellent dropped a percentage point on the week to 61 percent.  Soybean condition ratings fell three percent to 63 percent good to excellent.

Oat harvest advanced to 30 percent, spring wheat is 70 percent coloring, and barley is seven percent harvested.

Sugarbeets are called 71 percent good to excellent, and the second cutting of alfalfa is at 87 percent.
