‘Weed resistance, we are all in this together’

Amy Asmus

An Iowa-based ag retailer/agronomist says the weed resistance issue facing agriculture is not just a biological and technological problem—it’s also a human behavior problem.

Amy Asmus owns Asmus Farm Supply located in Rake, Iowa. She currently serves on the board of the Agricultural Retailers Association, as well as the boards of the Iowa Certified Crop Advisers and the Agribusiness Association of Iowa. She is also a past chair of the Certified Crop Advisers North American and International boards.

Asmus says while the producer plays a big role in addressing weed resistance, it also needs to involve others in the farming community.

“The solution will not come in a jug, but in the hearts and minds of those who face resistance,” Asmus says.

At the 2017 Iowa Soybean Association Research Conference, Asmus spoke on “Weed Resistance, We Are All In This Together.”  We visited with her following her presentation.
