Weed control this fall should be a priority

It’s been a tough year for farmers and it’s not going to get any easier as they head into harvest. The delayed spring created even more challenges when it comes to controlling weeds.

Ty Witten, North American crop protection lead for Bayer, says that means farmers will have to be extremely vigilant in weed control during harvest.  “Those weeds have been left to seed potentially,” he says.  “Getting on top of that week control is going to be a really key factor for the agronomist, their dealers, and their crop consultants to stay on top of.”

He tells Brownfield farmers will be faced with several agronomic decisions this fall.  “Were they able to get any other kind weed control managed or other crops seeded in,” he says.  “We’re really needing to think about what goes in for a rotation year.  If it didn’t have a commodity – are farmers going back with beans or corn.  Or can they pull it out and some kind of wheat crop.”
