Weather impacting Wisconsin’s harvest

Wisconsin farmers dealt with multiple nights of frost, high wind, spotty rains, and even up to two inches of snow in northern counties last week.  USDA reporters say the weather interrupted field work, even though the precipitation was welcomed.  The late-planted corn was pushed closer to maturity by the cold nights.

Ninety-six percent of corn is mature, eighteen days ahead of average.  The corn harvest is 27% complete and the average moisture for grain corn was 21%, with the crop condition rated 77% good to excellent.

The soybean harvest is 86% finished, which is 10 days ahead of average. 

Ninety-four percent of Wisconsin’s potatoes are now harvested.

The winter wheat planting is 86% finished with 65% of the crop already emerging. 

Manure application and fall tillage continues.  USDA reporters say 34% of fall tillage is complete.
