Weather allows for more planting progress in Tennessee

Cooperation from Mother Nature allowed Tennessee farmers to make quick work of planting this past week.  Ninety-four percent of the corn crop has been planted with 78% emerged.  Soybeans are 55% planted with 33% emerged.  Cotton is 70% planted.

There is also some replanting of corn and soybeans taking place because of the poor stands due to the cool and wet weather early on in the season. 

Ninety-seven percent of winter wheat is headed, and 41% is coloring with 78% rated good to excellent.  Pastures are rated 57% good to excellent.  Hay cutting is underway and tobacco transplanting has begun.   

Topsoil moisture is 73% and subsoil moisture is 82% percent adequate to surplus.
