“We will deal with the farm bill after the election”

House Speaker John Boehner confirmed what everybody already knew this morning. Mr. Boehner told reporters at a press briefing: “We will deal with the farm bill after the election.” The Ohio Republican says conservatives don’t like the Ag Committee bill’s $900 billion price tag and liberals don’t like the $16 billion cut in food assistance programs. As a result, the Speaker says the 218 votes needed to pass the bill aren’t there.

As of late Thursday, 62 representatives have signed Congressman Bruce Braley’s discharge petition. 218 signatures are needed to force a vote on the farm bill.
