Warren County the latest Agri-Ready Missouri County

Warren County is the latest Missouri county to earn the Agri-Ready designation for its support of agricultural development and economic growth. The advocacy group Missouri Farmers Care grants the designation to counties that create an environment conducive to agriculture entrepreneurship.

“Agri-Ready County designation is a win-win,” said Ashley McCarty, executive director of Missouri Farmers Care, in an interview with Brownfield Ag News. “It is something that every county should pursue. It’s a great fit and can be used as a tool for every county across the state to enhance, bolster and build their biggest industry, which is undoubtedly agriculture.”

The latest data says Warren County generated $287.7 million in agriculture product sales in 2016. The county’s agricultural strength is in food product manufacturing, soybean production and beef cattle. There are now 61 Agri-Ready counties in Missouri.

“Farming and related agricultural commerce in Warren County continue to provide a way of life for local farm families as well as economic benefit for local communities,” said Stacy Ward, president of Warren County Farm Bureau. “The Agri-Ready Designation recognizes the importance of agriculture locally and helps promote opportunities in the county for future generations.”

Through the Agri-Ready program, Missouri Farmers Care recruits local 4-H and FFA leaders to implement Agriculture Education on the Move in third-grade classrooms. The student leaders present agricultural careers, crop science, and livestock production segments through engaging, hands-on activities and lessons while developing their speaking and leadership skills.

“Recognizing the strength and potential of Warren County agriculture, county leaders have embraced Agri-Ready Designation,” said McCarty. “We look forward to joining with local FFA and 4-H leaders to deliver agricultural curriculum to elementary students, connecting them with their food supply and the hard-working individuals who raise it.”
