Warm weather advances Indiana harvest progress

Hot and dry weather helped crops dry down and helped Indiana’s farmers get a good start on harvest.  According to the latest weekly crop report 15 percent of Indiana’s corn has been harvested and has averaged 21 percent moisture.  Eighty-seven percent of corn has been harvested for silage and 74 percent of the crop has reached maturity.  Humid weather has increased the presence of mold in both stalks and harvested corn.

Soybean harvest is under way with 9 percent of the crop harvested with an average moisture content of 14 percent.  Sixty-eight percent of the crop has started dropping leaves.

In other crops, tomato harvest continues, 68 percent of tobacco has been harvested, and 6 percent of winter wheat has been planted.
